Contact Us Before Harvest with Fall Fertilizer and Ag Lime Plans
Sep 24, 2025

“Right now is the time to review soil samples, [outline] planting intentions for 2026, and make plans for fall fertilizer and ag lime applications,” said Brad Hipsag, Federated ag sales rep in Ogilvie.
Before harvest begins – before the combines hit the fields – Federated and growers need to be on the same page about which fields get fertilizer and/or ag lime this fall, and at what rates. Federated’s goal is to not have to “pull you out of the combine and pause harvest progress” because the information isn’t clear, Hipsag said.
If Federated knows when the crop is coming off a given field, fertilizer can be spread right behind the combine, which then doesn’t slow down fall tillage. Hipsag said, “We can be faster and more efficient if we are spreading fertilizer or ag lime on untilled ground.”
Agronomically speaking, “it is also ideal … to incorporate both fertilizer and ag lime into the soil after application,” he said.
